There Will Be No Explanation There Will Just Be Reputation
This Album was essential for Taylor in Many ways. It can be said to be one of her darkest albums. This is said based on some of the song titles such as "I Did Something Bad" "Ready for It", and "Look What You Made Me Do" which is Taylor's perception of how the public now views her. At this time frame, she was receiving a lot of hate from the public because of the Kim & Kanye situation. So much so she actually took some time off from the public. She deleted all of her posts on social media and unfollowed everyone. Kim began to spread more hate on Taylor calling her a snake. Taylor took this and used it to her advantage. Swift put snakes in the back of her soon-to-be-released album, "Reputation" Yet some of her songs on here tell another story. Instead of taking a step back when receiving hate she actually embraced herself in it. Taylor then wrote "Delicate" with the line, "My reputation's never been worse, so you must like me for me" She then talks about her new relationship and how she doesn't know how and if he will still stick around due to how chaotic her life can be. And how everything in her life is publicized, even falling in love.
Although Taylor didn't even announce or give a lot of promotion to "Reputation" it still sold 1.2 million copies in its first week in the United States and soon became a number-one album in Canada, Australia, Spain, Belgium, Japan, and the UK. Taylor created this album with a completely different look than what she usually does. This is genius due to all the backlash she was getting, she decided to make it into money. Leaving it all up to her fans that only made it better with all the music that was sold. I mean when Swift went on her tour performing Reputation she bought a 63-foot cobra inflatable with her on stage, she later revealed how even though the entire world was against her she decided to make a name out of it. This is just one of the many reasons why Taylor is such a great role model. Whether you like her or not there is no denying how incredibly strong she would have been to do that.
Swift has undoubtedly shown traits that made her fight for herself, fight for her reputation, and spread good word. The whole world watching you and hating on you would definitely take a toll on me, so I couldn't even imagine over a million. Taylor loved her music and knew she didn't want to give it all up, and for that, I have so much respect for her.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had the chance to listen to this album, but it appears that the radical change was a positive move for her in the music industry.
